Love As A Service

If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love [for others growing out of God’s love for me], then I have become only a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal [just an annoying distraction]. And if I have the gift of prophecy [and speak a new message from God to the people], and understand all mysteries, and [possess] all knowledge; and if I have all [sufficient] faith so that I can remove mountains, but do not have love [reaching out to others], I am nothing. If I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it does me no good at all.

1 Corinthians 13:1‭-‬3 AMP

For as long as I can remember, my job has been helping other people do their job.

I’ve had a great variety of jobs at many different organizations serving a myriad of international clients.

All the while, despite all the variables, one thing remained constant: serve the client’s need. If you want satisfied customers, you need to meet their needs. If you want repeat business, exceed their expectations.

Now ministry is different from food service, business or education but the same principles apply. Ministry is service. It’s others-oriented. Our goal is to develop Christ-likeness in ourselves and others.

That’s no small task and if our motivations are wrong, we’ll be wasting everyone’s time.

We serve because we love. We love because God first loved us. Our service is love and love is our service.

God’s love is redemptive. God’s love is restorative. God’s love is unconditional. God’s love is transformational. God’s love is a free gift.

A gift is useless unless you receive it. We must first accept Christ as Lord and Savior. Then, we can be filled with His love and Holy Spirit. Then, we can share it with the world around us.

It’s pretty simple and simple is best. They will know we are disciples by our love for one another. So go out there and love somebody. You’ll be glad you did!

Lord God, You are the source of all good things. You are Love and You are light. Fill me with Your love and your light so that I might shine bright for You. Thank You, Lord. Amen
